Big milestone today. Three coats of Evercoat polyester primer with two or three extra coats on all the edges and high points. Five hours of painting and no runs! Thats a huge win! My philosophy when painting any helicopter or airplane was that if it had no runs I did'nt put enough paint on it. Ha! But that was Imeron, a whole nother animal. All the curves are straight! That is, when you sight down the tops of all four fenders the top radius is in alignment. I was concerned all the seam sanding might throw off those lines, but those are sweet! I'll have a few pin holes to hit with glazing compound in the morning. After that dries I'll shoot some more primer with the touch up gun. Monday morning should see me start to sand in a good finish for the guy who will be painting it.

Personally, I like your hanger idea. I've only got a 2-stall garage to do my paintwork in so I'll probably do something similar.

I might even have to paint the body separate from the other panels.... GASP!!! :p

Although Allyn may not want to hear Rich’s comments (heck, he might not want to hear mine either), in my opinion he is correct. Although it doesn’t matter for primers the doors hood and trunk should be painted in their final orientation unless they’re being painted in a solid color with no metal, pearl or mica. If done in another direction once they are oriented correctly on the main body you can get a change in the “flop” resulting in a mismatch even though the actual color is the same.

I did a write up years ago showing how I set them up for spraying and how my fixtures allow both sides to be shot without having to handle the parts to turn them over.

Metalic content in paint does complicate consistency. In Harley Davidson production, it was a challenge to get metallic particles to stand-up consistently between steel and plastic parts.

Thanks guys. The orentaion comment from Rich was rather blunt to say the least, and not the first time. I painted polyester primer and as you say the orientation does not matter. I'm hip to the metalic paint application procedures, but appreciate the heads up. However A great guy in Salem that painted my Thunderbolt HOK Kandy Brandywine will be shooting the same paint on my Roadster not me, my paint jobs tend to look like I painted it with a dead chicken.
