Project “Sacrilege”.

My dad built a motor for a customer’s Cobra when I was preteen and its been a dream car since. Now at 38 the build has started. Ive been dreaming and building one in my head for years but finally turned it into a reality this year. A LS powered Cobra has been at top of my option list. I seen a comment from a ford enthusiasts that its “Sacrilege” to put a chevy in one and thats how I got the name.

In May I put out a wanted post for a kit. I found a MKIV in Indianapolis IN that a guy purchased in 2017 but hadnt done anything with. It was a base kit with IRS option. Exactly what I was looking for. We talked and made a deal then the wife and I made the 16hr 1,100 mile one way trip from Santa Fe, Tx. We planned it out for Indy 500 weekend and made a trip to remember out of it.

Got the car home and in my shop. I got a full plate right now on home and business projects so the plan is to gather parts so when time is available parts or money will not be holding up the project. Although its a base “donor” kit the only used parts will be engine, trans and third member.
The third member was purchased by original owner, has a 3.31 gear. Should work great for cruising.

Parts i've gathered so far:
lower CA & 2 piece spindles, complete 13” front brakes, Rear rotors & Pads, Tie Rods, Fuel sender, fuel tank, rack and pinion, tank straps, breeze rollbars, hood hinges, fan shroud
cowl, filler neck, Willwood pedal assy, Cup holders, fuel pump assy, engine mounts, Fuel tank shield, carbon fiber dash, radiator, chassis harness, louvers, ebrake handle, engine and trans, billet buttons,
cam, springs, fuel rails, insulation, oil pan and tires

Engine is a LS1 and T56 combo from 2002 Camaro I used to own and know history on. We got it pulled and doing a reseal on it along with a cam swap and vette pan.
Tires are 315/35-17 and 255/40-17 Toyo Proxes R888r.

Plan is to powder all trim black and go with a dark color. Haven’t totally decided in color yet.

Parts still needed at this point are Custom order wheels, engine harness, powdercoating, headers, gauges, drive shaft, different seats and a bunch of miscellaneous items to hook it all up.

Next step of the build is to get body off, prefit panels and prep chassis for powdercoat.

Stay tuned, will post pictures along the way.

Congrats on starting your build! Sounds like you have plenty of parts to keep you busy for a long time.

The number of LS builds here have really ticked up recently

Good luck!

Sounds familiar, minus a few cubes. You'll love it.

There's nothing “Sacrilege” about putting a Chevy engine in a replica of a British sports car.

Congrats. No Sacrilege. I always ask myself if Carol built this car today what engine would he use? Back in the day It all came down to GM turned him down and Ford didn't. Could have gone either way in todays market and an LS is a strong choice. I think you will be very happy. Enjoy the build.

Sacrilege would be using a Hemi. LS's are solid engines. And technically the only reason Shelby used Ford blocks is because that's who he was partnered with. Had it been Chevy, we'll all be fawning over the 350ci (or the LS for the modern option).

Good chance I'm about to head down that road my own self...

I'd argue the LS is closer to the original than the Coyote, brand notwithstanding. Both are awesome.

I agree. The coyote is a very impressive engine. Size, weight and cost are the main factors i went the LS route.

And why would using a Hemi be sacrilege? I have a Hemi my 33 and get nothing but compliments.

Was wondering when you were going to show up. :)

Honestly I was real close to pulling the trigger on an LS. So much bang for the buck.

We've been cleaning up and getting things back to normal after Hurricane Francine came to visit us.
