Hi. I have run the engine a few times and a couple of go karts. Gen 3 Coyote, GPS gauges.

Pressure gauge was reading about 40 psi at idle. Then today I started it up and immediately goes 100 psi at idle.

What thing/s should I try to correct this issue?

Thank you!

Coyotes usually go to 100 on cold start then drop as they warm up.

Thank you, Jeff! I had not noticed that before (certainly didn’t happen on first start).

seconded, I just started mine for the first few times, starts high then goes to normal after a couple minutes. On a quick subsequent start it seems to "know" the engine's warmed up and oil pressure starts normal, I don't know what the PCM is reading to make that determination, temperature or something.

On a cold start, the idle is held higher for 15 or 20 seconds. Higher RPM=Higher Oil Pressure. Wouldn't be surprised if the PCM has some sort of logic that says 'If I haven't been started in x minutes, hours, etc, start in the 'cold start' routine'. Probably also uses the coolant temp sensor, maybe even as the primary sensor to make that decision.

Sure enough, it started dropping after several seconds and settled at 35psi at idle.

I can confirm that my wife's 2015 Mustang GT in pure stock form does the same thing.

Not being particularly knowledgeable on the technical side of engines, am curious, what are the negative effects of high oil pressure?

Nige, that is a good question. I’m not sure of the answer but my concern was that the gauge or sensor failed and thus I wouldn’t know if the pressure was low.

Oil pressure is typically regulated so "excess" is experienced before the regulator. There should be a spec on the regulator. That said the reality is the regulated pressure degrades through the system to the end of the oil gallies.
Cold oil is a challenge and oil filters have a relief valve that by-pass the filter element during cold start-up.

Years ago the Fram had street filters and racing filters (HP1). The race filters had high pressure canisters to go with high pressure systems and (thick) straight weight oil. I heard tails of street filter canisters blowing off the base plate on cold start.
