Hey,

I am building my mk4 to be IVA compliant so if I do move to the UK (my current plan in a few years) I can bring my car with me. I was just reviewing section 36 covering the heating system and Note 1 which states that the air intake must not draw air from the engine compartment. I was wondering what anyone in the UK has done with the vintage air kit. Do I need to create an air box to direct air from the front such as a brake duct in to the vintage air box?

It is possible that Australia might have similar rules so if your upside down feel free to comment as well.

Thanks

James

Yep. Rules are similar here in South Australia, many are adapted from UK IVA regs I'm told. I can send you the rather extensive list of mods I did if you like.

I have Vintage Air heater as well. It draws air from engine bay, but would be easily modified to pull air from another location, using ducting. Probably worthwhile getting on a decent UK forum, to get the most accurate information. I estimate mods added ~2 years to my 7 year build. Frustrating, but I love the final result.

Cheers,

Nigel

You can also try getting in touch with Dan at Tech Autos in the UK. He has helped a bunch of FFR customers over there import and register their kits, and can probably help you get the info you are looking for. You can Dan at info@tech-autos.co.uk.

Hi Nigel,

Yeah the fan is open on both sides so I figure I will have to build some kind of box around the motor to duct it.

Hi Dave,

I have talked to Dan a few times in the past if/when I import the car he will be handling that for me, a possibility would be to duct one side that is simple and leave the other side. Then when Dan is prepping the car for the IVA he can take care of the other side with a duct already in place.

Thanks

James
