Pulling the car out of the garage to drive it to work today.. One of my wheel chucks stuck to my tire and did quite an ugly number on my front left fender...

Sorry to see that! Hopefully the cost and paint match doesn’t get too crazy.

I had a wheel chuck do the same thing one day. Luckily I heard it in time to avoid any damage. Be careful when parking up against them when the tires are wet, that's when mine tend to stick.
Is that type of repair somewhat simple? And who do you go to for that sort of thing? Paint matching seems like it would be an issue?

I have a feeling that's exactly what I'll be doing for a while.

Curiosity sake, leave in gear and/or emergency brake. Why the chucks?
Also could save yourself a bit of coin with some chop strand and some filler!

I just have a single chuck in front of the garage and drive in and give it a little bump when I'm far enough in my tiny garage. I'll be converting to the tennis ball on a string...

It's a chock when it does what's it's supposed to. It turns into a chuck when it screws up your car, because that's exactly what you do with it. Chuck it across the garage.
Sorry for the mishap. That hurts.

The great thing is you have the piece to put back in. The fun thing about fiberglass is that you glass it back in and sand off anything that doesn't look like a car. Paint is another story.

From the photos, it looks like part of the break is right along the mold seam line. Shouldn't there be more glass going across that joint (and a resulting more jagged fracture line)?

Oh man that sucks. The glass work is pretty easy and honestly you could probably do it yourself if you wanted to. The paint as others had mentioned is a different deal.

I use these: https://a.co/d/1mdxMTT and have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PTDBYS5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (basically a high-tech tennis ball, but works great and for two cars.)

Depends on how the body was prepped and who did it.

John, that really sucks. I worry about clipping the side of the garage door frame when I'm backing out, but thankfully, I've managed to avoid that.
JeffP, I've got one that's similar to the first one you listed, the mat. I've got a very tight area to park in and need to make sure I'm in far enough. Since I installed it, I haven't had any issues.

I think that will buff out!!!
That does suck. My garage is kinda small too so I made a parking spot out of RaceDeck tiles so I know when to stop when the rear wheels drive on them.

The laser parking guides work great for me. Just aim it where you will see it on the car when pulling in.

Your garage looks to be about the same size as mine, maybe even a tad bigger.

Visited my local body shop yesterday afternoon. They have fixed other damage on the car in the past from being bumped on the race track. Their fiberglass guy said in the interest of getting the car quickly back on the road he can glue the broken piece in and reinforce it from behind in about an hour. They have paint left over from my previous repair and it will look ok "from a distance". Then later in the winter when I'm not wanting to drive it all the time they'll take it in for about a week and do a proper job. He pointed out that the front has started to crack at the seam line and that will only progress. He'll reinforce it for now so it shouldn't get worse. It also has stress cracks all along the edge of the wheel well that he'll deal with come winter.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, such a bummer. It sounds like you have a good plan in place for repair - good luck!

Looks perfect! I love a well used race car, and it's like I always tell my grandson---Chicks dig scars!

That is why I often choose paint colors for my race car that match available racers tape (or vinyl sign material) colors. I can rivet the fiberglass together if I have the pieces, and cover the scar with matching material.
