I've created a form for recording info on graduating cars. This first one is for the Roadster:
http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/misc.php?do=form&fid=6

Please take a look, and tell me what you think. What is missing? What is incorrect? What other improvements would you suggest?

I'm thinking this could be filled out by all owners, not just current graduates...

Thoughts?

:)

David, my first thought is about the first question, and might demonstrate what a huge effort this is going to be for you.

First, my FFR number is FFR4969K. Notice I did not say 4969. There is another car out there somewhere (I've never found it) that is number 4969, but in the new numbering format. There are about 1000 doubles like this, from the period of late 2003 into mid 2004. I don't think any registration system with an unedited number entry is going to work, because people will simply not enter their full number. This field needs to be fully edited for both format and content.

Second, that number is not stamped on my frame. There are no numbers stamped on my frame at all. I have a number (don't remember what it is at the moment, like 3875 or somesuch) welded into the end of the 2x3 crossmember immediately behind the cockpit wall. The number is actually formed from a weld bead. But I've been over the car from end to end and there are no numbers stamped on my frame.

Because the primary goal of any new registration system has to be 100% accuracy, I think the only way to get this right is to preload a table from Factory Five that contains, at a minimum;

The identifying number of the kit
The corresponding (but different) number welded into the frame
Delivery date (or build date, whatever)
Mark designation
Factory options purchased with the kit

That stuff is all presumably on record at FFR, so now the question is matching up the owners. I would propose that the aforementioned table also include;

Original buyer's name and address

HOWEVER, the original buyer's name and address would remain hidden, and would have to be supplied by the person registering the car. An edit can determine whether there's a match, and if there is, pull in all the information from the first list. (Mismatches could be handled by moderators -- we're not talking state registrations here, just a listing of cars.)

Holy Smokes. That was just the first field on the form!! Here's the thing -- if you leave it to people to simply enter an unedited number, there will be duplicates and disputes and mistakes. A registry with duplicates and disputes and mistakes is completely worthless.

I applaud your initiative, but to get this right you need rock-solid information. You need to get the table from FFR and put it on the forum server so the editing and defaults can happen.

JMHO.

AJ,

At this point I don't think I can get FFR to release that info. I personally don't think there will be that manyo disputes, and if there are then perhaps we can get FFR info to help clear it up. Believe me, being a long-term veteran of data-based marketing, I know what garbage in-garbage out means. But we have to start somewhere.

Thanks for the input. It's noted and hopefully FFR will see this thread and have some input of their own. Either way, we gotta figure out a way forward, IMO.

Picking nits -- under "rear gear ratio" you might want to add 3.31 as a pick, since that is what F5 sells in their store and it is likely to be a common ratio.

Good catch. I've made the change. Anyone else?

I think I've seen a few guys on the boards talking about running 275 front tires. Your list only goes to 270.

275 added. Thanks!

David,

Couple more nitpicks for you. For Tranny, add T-5. For shocks, add Pro-Shocks.

Do we want to add thefactortyfiveforum.com user name? How about - Did you build the car or buy it built?

Other than that, I think it looks good and like the idea.

Henry, your changes were added.

These are just the type of corrections and additions I'm looking for!

Engine Manufacturer? (Ford, Lincoln, Chevy, Pontiac, Chrysler, etc) (I forget the Australian brands)

Engine add-ons: Turbo, Twin-Turbo, Super-charger, (all of the above), Blower, NOS, Injector-stacks

Carb / EFI?

For consistency, I think you should use the Factory Five Racing, Inc ID plate with the designation and serial number: eg MARK III ROADSTER F5R1006RD.

That way there is no chance for duplication. IMO. WEK.

Thanks WEK.

Any other feedback?

With regards to FFR Numbers

I beleive that everyone should have received a certificate of origin from FFR upon purchase of their vehicles. Hopefully when a vehicle is sold or purchased from another party this certificate continues on with the car.

The serial number provided on the certificate of origin should be your FFR number and this should be the number provided for the registry. I would find it hard to beleive that FFR would have duplicated on their certificate of origing serial number.

Hopefully the registry will require the entire number as shown on the Certificate of Origin and not the shortcut 4 digit numbers we all use in our signatures.

I could be wrong but this seems to make the most sense.
