As I continue to research and gather parts I have hit a roadblock regarding rear brakes... I hope some of you more experienced builders can shine a light on my concerns...

I will be using a narrowed 3-link 8.8 for Vintage Wheels 15" pin drives and the Wilwood pedal box. For the front brakes I am using the front brake package as supplied in the complete kit.

I have no plans to ever track this car. It will be a weekend cruiser and driven to the office on occasion. The engine is just a mild 306 putting out approximately 300hp at the crank.

What I can tell from the research done over the past couple of hours is many are using the 11.65 rear rotors. Will these fit in the barrel of 15" Vintage pin drives? If so, how is the braking balance with the larger rear rotors combined with stock Mustang front brakes?

Considering the 15" wheels and use of the car would it be acceptable, or even prudent, to use the SN95 GT 10.5" solid rear rotors?

I recommend you call Gordon Levy racing. He set me up with the appropriate rotor and calipers that fit with the 15" wheels. He's the expert on this one.

Are you using the narrowed pin drive front suspension also? I've been through that with pin drive wheels if you have any questions.

I am not really interested in going with aftermarket brakes, I do appreciate the suggestion but this car will never see the track and will be casually driven.

Thanks Mike!

I did order it with the optional pin drive front control arms. I am sure I will have lots of questions for you once I begin putting this thing together.

I built a 33 hot rod and run a 15 x 12 rear wheel (not a pin drive though) and went with the solid 10.5 in solid rotor set up. Provides plenty of clearance and seems to stop fine. If I remember correctly though I believe I switched to a 5/8 bore master cyl. from the standard 3/4 for the rears. One of these days I will probably switch the front master cyl. to a 5/8 also to lessen pedal effort required. I also ended up going to more aggressive Hawk pads which helped noticeably .

I had a heck of time getting the pin drive front suspension correct from Factory Five, no one, and I mean no one there knew what to supply. I finally found an old order list I had saved and had to give them the part number.

For reference you need two part numbers to get everything you need.

13242 Pin-Drive Front Suspension

12508 Pin-Drive Lower Front Arms

And then there is zero documentation on how to install it. If it wasn't for Jeff Kleiner I'd still be stuck with 20 degrees of positive camber.

Feel free to reach out if you need to.
