I think burning off the old hard rubber should be a regular maintenance item for these cars. It's really the only way to expose fresh tread! That was obviously the responsible thing to do. Well done.

Nice! I think everyone needs to do this every once in a while. Makes you more familiar with the car and cures the desire to light em up on public roads, where it can be dangerous. I like the comment of routine maintenance to rub off the old, hard rubber.
