I have a 100 micron filter at the fuel tank. Holley told me to place another filter close to the engine fuel pump. Do I need to do this and use a 10 micron filter? Plumbing fuel lines now.
Thanks
any info is appreciated.

I would. The pre-pump filter take care of any big particles present in the fuel as-purchased and anything else that finds its way into the tank. The finer post-pump filter catches any of the smaller stuff that makes its way through the first filter + any scaling etc. that could occur in the line from the pump to your regulator/carburetor/EFI.

The only caveat is to make sure that whatever you use for a filter under the hood near the engine is capable of withstanding the heat and fuel pressure present at that location. You don't want to be starting an engine compartment fire.

+1 also using a secondary. I like the canister style which is easy to swap out the filter. I have had good luck with Aeromotive products, made in the USA, high quality and good customer service.

Not sure if you're carb or EFI, but the 100 micron before the pump is to protect the pump from debris. The filter after the pump depends on your fuel system. You will need a 10 micron to protect injectors or a 40 micron is sufficient to keep carb orfices from getting clogged. I don't think it matters where in the line you put the secondary filter as long as it's between the pump and carb/injector. I put mine near the rear wheel well as I don't want to clutter up the engine bay.

Re-reading your post it sounds like you are talking about putting a secondary filter before the pump? I wouldn't do that as it can cause additional restriction and could put undue stress on the pump. The 100 micron is adequate to protect the pump itself, unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise.

Exactly, do not put a filter ahead of the pump, only after. 100 micron is really just a screen.

I put a Trick Flow canister filter (10 micron)(from Summit) in the rear wheel well. Dont rely on the pump screen, as mentioned its to keep large peices out of the pump.
