Been running shakedown/break in excursions for a while now. Gen3+TKX. 300+ miles, and no MIL faults, no major issues no mention, and lots of thumbs up. Keeping RPMs low and moderate accel for the first 500miles. I have 3 sounds I’m working to diagnose: Chirps, buzz’s, and squeals

Chirps: I think I have this one figured out – This is the PS door latch squeaking metal on metal as the door vibrates underway. I have not yet installed the bulb seal on the door. That should take up the slack in the door, along with a little lithium grease on the latch itself.

Squeal: This one sounds an awful lot like a belt squeal. Occurs only on light throttle application (unless I just can’t hear it at higher RPMs). It could be any of the pulley bearings is my guess. My dad is in town this week, so in addition to him getting some rides, will have a second set of ears to listen while in the garage and lightly on the throttle. More to follow there. Looks like other threads have had these kind of noises go away over time.

Buzz: This one seems to be coming from the transmission tunnel. Sounds almost like crickets (for lack of a better description), though pretty faint. Also appears to be under light throttle application, though not as consistent as the squeal above. Any ideas on this one I’m all ears. Will be checking this week as well when in neutral with light throttle.

I can try to get some video if it helps.

Also - driving this thing is amazing! constant smiles

Jealous of you getting miles on the car. Regarding the Squeal, I would assume the serpentine belt on the gen3 should stay tight with the belt tensioner. It could be the power steering belt as thats the only belt not on the main tensioner. Just my guess. Mine (PS belt I assume) squeals briefly if I've got the wheel turned hard all the way to one side or the other.

I agree it is likely that PS belt, as the instructions are pretty vague as to how much pressure to apply when tightening the belt and installing the 2x bolts holding the pump in place.

Also, for the “buzz” in the tranny tunnel: had the car up on jacks to install Marco safety hoop plus just give a look-see. One of the tranny attachment bolts (the ones that go through the spacers and into the transmission itself) was missing, and the spacers were slightly twisted. Got a replacement and blue locktited both bolts. Checked everything else under there and all seem good to go. All the suspension bolts were still on the torque stripe, so that’s good.

Nice “phew” reminder to nut and bolt you cars! Was planning to do it next month before my first autoX, but glad I did it early
