I have the MK4 IRS with the 11.65 stock FFR brakes. The brake dust is excessive. What is the manufacturer and model of the rear brakes so I can order better pads?

My FFR 11.65” rear brake kit was supplied with Stoptech 309.06271 pads. The application crosses over to 2004 Mustang Mach 1, SVT Cobra and others. Don’t know if the same pad was supplied with yours but I found them to be only moderately dusty, certainly not “excessive.” I know you’ve been asking about “better” pads with your definition of better being less dust. Just keep in mind that pads which don’t create dust generally don’t stop you very well…low dust=low bite. As the saying goes “there ain’t no free lunch.”

I had the same thing on the last build. I had to clean the wheels literally after every drive. I think I was going broke on wheel cleaner. Found this post with possible alternatives.

Have Hawk HPS. They dust moderatly but stop much better than FFR supplied parts, about 90ft from 70MPH manual brakes. FWIW Outlast sprayed on clean wheels is a good plan to have good stopping power & clean wheels.

dry paper towel, single wipe.
I am using these ceramic pads for the rear, do not generate a lot of break dust and seem to stop the car fine. I don't have much to compare to on stopping power these have been on my car since I built it.

Not sure where the part number Jeff referenced came from, maybe the front brakes. However, the brake pads on the car we have in the shop right now has the F5R 11.65" rear brakes from the one year only 1993 Mustang Cobra. Part number 309.05450 Stop Techs website says they cross over to a early 90's Taurus and the Tbird and Cougar for the 1985-95 model years, but from pictures online, they look different from the 1993 Mustang Cobra pads. They may fit, I don't know. I do agree with Jeff that brake pad dust and wear is a trade-off with performance. If you have power-brakes, it may not be an issue. I run stock street compound pads on my car, but I do have power-brakes. Manual brakes may need a pad with more initial bite and pads that are less prone to fade. Choose wisely!

FFR replied to my request and said the rear brakes for the MK4 with the IRS are for a 1987-1988 Ford Thunderbird. I ordered them and I can confirm they are the correct pads.
