Filling the MK4 with fluids getting ready for 1st start. Naturally, it isn't as easy as it sounds.

The fill plug on my TKX transmission sits too close to the E-brake bracket to get a 3/8" socket on it's head. I can pull some shims out, lower the tranny slightly, pull the plug and fill the tranny, then put shims back in. BUT, in the future I need a MUCH easier way to do it for ongoing maintenance checks. An easy solution is to get a plug with a bolt head to I can use an open end wrench to get it off. Not sure what I need though???

Is this plug a NPT "tapered" thread? Can I use a MIP plug (available at home depot)? Any other solutions from someone who's gone before me on this journey?

I took an old socket extension, cut it to 3/4" long with a cut off wheel. Ground down the remaining round part to match the square part, then you can get a wrench on it.

Figured out a solution. Thought I'd post it in case someone else can use it. Similar to Rebostar solution above, got a piece of 3/8" key stock from Tractor Supply. Cut off 1/2" length of it. Most of it fits into plug square hole, but leaves just enough for a 3/8" open end wrench to grab outside the plug. Had plenty of room to remove plug without having to drop the tranny shims. Plus, this will make maintenance checks MUCH easier.

Nice solution. I used a 3/8" drive socket wrench without a socket.
