So when disassembling my windshield to get the frame powder-coated, one of the brass L-shaped brackets that secure the bottom of the frame to the vertical side frame was cracked right at the screw. An email to FFR parts hasn't been responded. Anyone have advice on replacement? I also plan to buy Whitby stainless windshield inserts to replace the factory brass ones. Might those be the best material to replace the L-bracket with?
Thanks,
-Bryan

I don’t think FFR sells those separately. They likely only come with a windshield which comes from their vendor. Find the dimensions and try to buy/fabricate a replacement from brass stock.

Yup, I think you may need to make your own. Looks like when they threaded that hole, it must have strained the material. Not sure why they use brass. I wonder if titanium would work better.

I had a spare set that I tried to use on another windshield. They didnt fit. Holes were off. My guess is they are made specific to each windshield. Bout some brass stock on Mc Master-Carr and made my own. Very simple.

Hi Mike, resurrecting this older thread....
do you recall the size bar stock you used, the brass strips are .323 wide and .095 thick, I could fine anything close

Here's a suggestion for you, based on my experience. I had the same problem as Junbug and I suspect that you have that problem as well. I took the brass pieces with me to my local hardware store. They didn't have any pieces of brass the same size, but they did have brass "bars" that are basically the same thickness. I bought that bar and fabricated my own bracket. Just take the scrap with you, and you should be able to find something that works pretty well. If you can't I'll cut a piece off of what I have left and mail it to you.

Yes, same problem, broke one of the l-brackets re-assembling after powder coating.
Thank you for the offer, I ordered 3/8" (.375) x 1/8" (.125) bar stock from McMaster-Carr and planning to fabricate my own. I suspect the width won't be an issue, I am concerned about thickness.

I ordered the best size available from McMaster, I then sanded it on the belt sander to the correct size in both width and thickness. A bit of trial and error to get everything correct. A am NOT the best machinist, so it took me about 3 tries to get a tight enough bend and proper hole locations to draw the corner tight.

Elfrey,
Here's a photo of the stock I used. It came from Ace Hardware and was "prepackaged". It is .096 inches thick, according to my digital caliper.

It was pretty close to the original. The new piece has been installed since last summer and would appear to be holding up.
