I have ordered my MK IV. Delivery due before Oct.
I have my donor 8.8 solid axle. It needs to be cleaned and the axles swapped for fox length axles.
I need to know what needs to be removed and not necessary.
In the photo I have marked the two brackets. I believe that "A" is not needed. Correct?
Any other thoughts or concerns?

Correct. Here it is assembled with the 3-link bits.

Also, since you'll be opening up the pumpkin to swap axles, might as well put a new friction clutch pack in there...easy, quick job. And replace the axle tube bearings while you're at it.

Thanks, that's a great help.
Best way to remove that bracjet? Cut off wheel?

Yep! FWIW, I think I left that bracket on my MkIII donor axle.

I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to remove them.

Those brackets can be removed and cleaned up in about half an hour wth a cut off wheel and grinder. They can also be left on the axle. When the car is on the ground no one will know which direction you went un less they are crawling under your car.

I've cut them off of every one I have done with a straight axle but it's your call.

I assume that you know that if you swap to Fox length axles you will need to use caliper relocation brackets. Although not required I always recommend changing the calipers to ahead of the axle rather than leaving them behind. Reason being that it makes for a much cleaner and easier route for the parking brake cables. If you do this you need to swap everything side to side...caliper mounts and brackets, calipers and the anti-moan brackets.

Cheers,
Jeff

FWIW. I have a Mark I thats I bought 3 years ago and it has those brackets in as well as the horizontal vibration dampeners (from a 1999 GT). I plan to leave them in as long as I own the car. Are they needed? Cheers!

Since the car has Mustang coil springs, yes.

Why are you changing the axles? You already have disk brakes and five lugs.

The rearend is from a 1995 mustang. It is 1.5 inches wider than a fox rearend. Putting the correct length axles (Fox) is a better fit on the f5r Roadster.

I think I knew all this but I appreciate the summary.
