So a few weeks ago I had my slave cylinder fail on me on a solo drive. Apparently, the MDL bracket made the cylinder misaligned (should have gone with Forte's).

Anyhow, during this drive, I had a great guy pull over within minutes to see if he could help. I wasn't sure exactly what the problem was at the time, but I knew I had no clutch and I was 20 miles from my house. I asked him if I could get a push to hopefully get it into gear and get it home without the tow of shame. Needless to say, that would have been a better option.

I was able to get it into 3rd gear (after a nasty grind) and was able to shift through the gears to get home. I just couldn't stop the vehicle, but somehow I made it all the way into my gated community and into my garage. Changing gears was pretty easy as long as I let the engine settle down to get it into gear. I fixed the slave cylinder and got it aligned perfectly and I think it is actually better than before (less foot travel to fully disengage).

Needless to say, I think I fried my 3rd gear synchro and damaged the 4th somehow. I can drive it with no problem as long as I go slow into 3rd gear - no grinding unless I shift quickly. I have zero issues going into 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse. I have a transmission shop that I will take it to after I pull the transmission. They think it's also the synchro gears (cheap part) and estimated it around $600 plus parts.

My question is, does anyone have any tips on pulling the transmission and re-installing it? I will likely have some help from our great Sacramento Factory Five group but would love any good tips from this forum. I don't have a lift, but will have access to a transmission jack. I know I'll need to pull the trans bracket, drive line, but not sure if I need to remove the bell housing or not. I think I don't but any tips is appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Ted

I doubt it's synchros. Don't think 20 miles would destroy them, be sure to double check clutch adjustment

Yes, I will look at that closer, but pretty sure its dialed in.
