Hey guys - I'm trying to figure out a backup camera scenario... yeah, I know these didn't exist on a '65 Cobra :)
but I do have a touchscreen setup and have the backup camera capability - also ran the wires as well.

I found a design from Saul (RIP) that I think is pretty novel, and hides the camera quite well...

if you look closely, there's a recessed camera in the license plate frame where the lights reside - the camera is where the usual nut/bolt combo go to hold the frame onto the rubber seal against the trunk
it seems that he used a few rivets to hold the setup now...

does anyone have any ideas on how he accomplished this? I may just have to noodle a bit on it to make it work.

the original idea was to use a license plate frame with a camera, but if the frame has the camera on top - it blocks the lights
and if the camera is on the bottom, it blocks the trunk handle from opening

any other ideas?

Todd, I am planning on doing the same as Saul did. As you noted (RIP Saul! I hope you’re driving the celestial highways at full throttle!) Saul, had the most optimal and for that matter, most elegant idea and implementation of adding a rear camera. Perhaps there was an electronic “pop-up” trunk lock, similar to doors that open with a remote switch? I suspect this was the solution and it is no doubt slick! There are various options on Summit or Amazon. I’ll be following along as I will be doing the same. You can do it, just need to route additional wires to make it happen.

I eliminated the trunk handle and installed an electric latch from a 2001-2003 Ford Taurus I bought off eBay. It was really quite simple to install and is actuated with a button on the dash. There's also an emergency release cable hidden behind the license plate.

yeah, I have the wires already run it's just drilling and setting up that license plate holder properly :)

I already have the trunk handle setup, so another option is probably out of the design at this point
