Hi Guys,
Ran into two things this weekend that i need simple help with.
1. Does any one have a pic of their solenoid mounted in the engine compartment? (searched already)
2. This one is a little longer. I finished all the brakes and everything came out as planned. I mounted the wheels and turned them to inspect and found the SS feeds to the the front calipers will rub on the tires when turned full one way (both wheels). I mounted the SS hose bracket to the frame as shown in the book. Am I missing something obvious or is there a certain way to mount the hose so it tucks under when you turn?
thanks a bunch..
Jim

I'm waiting to see if I have the same prob when the wheels are on. When I first put on the hoses it looked like two ways the hoses would orient themselves and I picked the one that looked closer to the a-arm rather than the tire. So, I'll find out I geuss. Nick

On my MKII. the SS front brake lines rub also, but lightly on the aluminum inner liner of the wheelwells (the so-called F-panels). I don't see that as a problem, but it certainly would be if the lines contacted the wheels themselves. You may be able to resolve that by simply swiveling the lines a bit at their inner chassis-side anchor points.

Solenoid can go several places; firewall or RH side of the engine compartment are common. I did things a little different on my Mk3. [QUOTE=JKleiner;2596671]My master power disconnect and fuel pump relay switch are on the tunnel horseshoe so it seemed logical to locate the solenoid there as well. I didn't want to see the cables and backside of the switches from the engine compartment so made a simple cover that is held with a couple of thumbscrews for easy access.
Here with the cover off (solenoid is on the far left in the pic, screwed to the 3/4" tube):

And with it in place:

With the engine in all that is visible is the cable coming from the bottom side going to the starter.
On a Mk4 that I built I used a front mounted battery and placed the solenoid on the RH motor mount pedestal:

This battery and solenoid location makes for nice short battery cables.
RE: brake lines---try loosening the banjo bolt and swiveling the hoses at the caliper to find a position that will allow the wheels to turn without interference. The Mk4 solenoid picture above is kind of a 2 for 1 that just happens to show the brake hose also.
Good luck,
Jeff
