View Full Version : Another oval air filter clearance question (427W). Can't close the hood.

Motor is in. 427w. Quick Fuel 750 carb.
Hood scoop cut per instructions.

Is the motor supposed to sit a bit to the passenger side in the cutout, as shown?

I have the taller 2.6" tall S&B filter. It hits the hood opening and scoop just a hair, only one the passenger side.
The "stock" paper filter is too short (1.7" tall) for the 750 Quick Fuel and hits the choke flaps if the lid is tightened down. I'm fighting over 3/4 of an inch.

Is there a 2.0" tall oval filter?
Or do I change the motor mounts and drop the motor down? (FFR supplied mounts are at the very top of the slots)

Yep, that’s exactly how they look; I’ve encountered it several times. Ditch the oval (they’re restrictive anyway) and replace it with a 14” round with a drop base and x-stream filter top. And yes, the engine is offset to the passenger side by design.

Mine would clear with the thin filter but as Jeff said, they are very restrictive. This is the K&N round with drop base and filter top.201048

This is what I just ordered the other day, I hope it fits...My early body testing the oval at the firewall side will not clear. I was not to fond of the oval, not real excited about the K&N look but function over looks on this item.
