200860 I've never really looked closely at my hinges before so I don't know. I just noticed that my left trunk lid hinge is missing the center pin. So I looked at the right hinge....I can see the end of the pin (see pin) sticking out a little bit, maybe a little less than a 16th of an inch and I can see the end is "splined" like a shaft. Is this normal (for it to stick out a little) or should it be flush? My follow up questions are 1) Is the missing pin available or should I just get a replacement hinge? 2) The car is a Mark II....are the hinges still available from FFR? 3) Do any of the vendors (example: Breeze) carry replacement hinges or pins? And 4) Looking at the splined pin again, can anyone suggest how they are installed or removed? Press fit, maybe?
.
Of course, I AM going to call FFR...but this is the weekend. Just trying to get my head in the game now. Thanks for any help.

Pin should be pressed in flat. I doubt FFR carries these anymore but cant hurt to ask.

They are old British sports car parts - TR3, MG A vintage. Try Moss Motors, they have all the old British parts like door latches, lights etc. that fit our cars. I have bought tail light lenses from them.
Others have had the pins come out of the hinge before, yes it should be flush as Mike said

Thanks for the responses. Getting back to the hinge "pin" in the photo. Okay, it should be flush and it's not. But does it PRESS in or does it SCREW in?
- The reason I ask is because of the splines on the end of the pin. It almost looks like the splines are there to screw the pin in... I just don't wnt to do the wrong thing and ruin the good hinge, too.

push it in. In fact if you can pull it out a bit more, put some loctite on it before pressing it back in.

As an FYI, there is a 'right' and 'left' hinge. So, if you get new ones, pay attention.

Thanks Weendoggy....yes, I noticed. (The "open" hole, through which the pins are inserted, is inboard on each hinge). I'm going to do my due dilligence and try and find the hinges or parts (actually, unless I damage the hinge, I only need one pin at this point in time. I have even considered making a new "press fit" pin on a lathe, using Delrin or aluminum. But I am still wondering 1) why the splines on the end of the pin? ....2) Since one side of the pin bottoms on a blind hole on the outboard side of the hinge, how would one remove a properly seated pin?

1) Usually, you want the pin to NOT rotate and splines are there to keep it fixed and allow the large swinging piece to rotate on the pin. 2) Very carefully or not at all. And, why would you want to remove a good solid pin? I know there are ways, because I've done it in my career.

The only reason I would want to remove a perfectly good pin is to replicate it. That's the reason I haven't pressed it back in yet (now that I know it presses in and doesn't screw in. I am supposing, if I absolutely have to, that I might be able to grab the protruding part of the pin and pull it out....measure it and then make one. I would MUCH rather not attempt to remove it, I'd rather just press it back in. Before I do or touch or press or pull anything....I'm getting the facts. It's the weekend, I can't make calls until Monday. But, thanks to the answers on this thread, I am better informed to deal with this. Again, I'm hoping I can just get the parts (pin or complete hinge).
