I’m considering putting some 5.25” stereo speakers in the trans tunnel sides at the front end of the tunnel, right around where the e brake would sit but on both sides. Anyone done this? These are shallow mount speakers and are about 3.5” deep. TKX trans. Just wondering what the clearance looks like at that spot.
Thanks.

could be possible IMHO
this is my car with TKX mounted, I didn't do a manual parking brake

Thanks Todd. I cut my brake out as well. Passenger side looks good. Enough clearance on the drivers side?

I'd say so if you have about 2.5" of clearance and get some low profile mount speakers, keep in mind you'll probably want at least some type of baffle to protect the speakers
who knows how many rocks will fling upward off the road or a random water puddle splashing into the trans tunnel

If I remember correctly the assembly is offset to the pass side?

Thanks for the comments. I thought someone else had put them in the tunnel, but maybe I'm mistaken. Looks like I'll wait until the trans is installed before cutting. I can always use a spacer, but will wait.

As a practical matter, I don’t think that you will actually hear them.

I am not sure the trans tunnel is a great place for speakers, but I have 4 in my roadster and hear things just fine around town. on the highway, not so much. Touring pipes help, not sure if I could hear music over standard side pipes.

I had speakers on my last build. 6" speakers in the back wall, 4" speakers in the bottom of the doors and a sub in the trunk. I could never hear the sub, but I think that's because it wasn't pointed towards the back of the car. Those pancake subs point upwards which are virtually useless. Unless you get creative with a custom box or something, you can't hear it. Even then, it would need to have some power, so that's a no go this time around. I never could hear the 4" speakers, so those are a no go as well.
The 6" speakers I could hear just fine, even at highway speeds, so I'm upping the quality and amperage this time around for an even better experience. Just wanted something to balance out the sound from the front. Thought about getting angled mounts so they point right at me from the front of the tunnel. Guess we'll see how it all pans out!
I agree with the comment on the pancake sub, I can't hear mine either. Perhaps a shaped enclosure to direct it may help. Good suggestion.

Hey. It is great hearing about this information.
If you do not mind me asking, what type of speakers will you be looking at this time around for the back wall?
I was considering doing some speakers as well and was not sure if it made sense to use Marine Speakers https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kicker-km-series-8-2-way-marine-speakers-with-polypropylene-cones-pair-charcoal-and-white/6273002.p?skuId=6273002
I was also going to use one of those Pancake Subwoofers / Amplifiers in the top shelf of the trunk but I guess that is sounding like a bad choice and I will see what else I can find that might be able to fit up there.

This time I went with a Wet Sounds 6.5” speaker for the back wall. They fit similar to the last ones and are really high quality. If you want a sub you’ll need to build a custom box that ports the sound to the front or rear, just not up or down. You’ll want to power it up nicely as well.
I’m sure the Kickers would do fine but you won’t be able to fit an 8” speaker on the back wall. 6.5” is the max unless you go with something not circular like a 6x9 which I’ve seen builds for them behind the seats.
I concur to get the biggest marine speakers you can, but I doubt the 8" will fit in the back wall. I used 4 Polk Audio MM522 speakers powered by a 4 channel 320W RMS amp with an 8" 125W pancake sub on the back shelf in the trunk. Speakers are fine around town but not on highway and sub is not effective with the current configuration.

As well as the pressure difference between cabin and trans tunnel when running at speed.
There's been more than one post about a metal cupholder in the transmission cover popping out of its hole while tooling down the road.
Baffle would be mandatory for all of the above reasons.
