View Full Version : Fornt & Rear Brake Lights not working

My passenger side brake lights are not working; both the amber front and bottom rear. The left side front and both rear work fine.

The signals, which share the same bulb DO work; just not the bottom brake light and not the front amber. I replaced with new bulbs as well.

I swapped out every fuse under the dash and cannot even find the fuse for the brakes (none of the fuses I removed killed the brakes). Going to have another go at it in the event I missed something.

Any suggestions? Is this an inline fuse somewhere? Trying to trace everything but without a lift, it's kinda hard as I cannot get under the car much.

Thank you all so much for any insights.

Unless the original builder did something REALLY odd there is no inline fuse. You're saying "brake lights" and then mention "both the amber front and bottom rear." You realize that there are no brake lights on the front, right? Do you mean the running lights? I.E. the low elements on the front parking lights and rear tail lights? Kinda' need more details about what is and is not working---Do you have anything at the passenger side front...either low element parking lamp or high element turn signal? Same for the passenger side rear...do you have the low element for the tail light but not the high element for the brake lights? If both are totally dead with neither low elements or high elements functioning you're probably looking at a ground issue.

Hi Jeff!

Thanks for dipping in on me.

Forgive me, as I am very new at all this, and landscaping my forte,
Not electronics…

OK, the reason I mentioned the front amber lights is because when I hit the brakes, 3 of the 4 taillights will light up, and the front driver amber light (the signal light/running light?) lights up but not the passenger side.

This front amber light acts as the signal light and I (foolishly?) assumed that this car was wired for front facing brake lights as well??

Again, forgive me if this is silly- never really paid attention to what any car does with front lights when braking and I am 52. I assumed, this being a kit build, it was “common”.
?

Thoughts?

No, the front lights are not supposed to come on with the brake lights. The fact that they are (or one is) indicates that the turn signals &/or hazard light circuits are wired incorrectly. I don’t suppose you know what wiring harness was used do you? Also, how are the turn signals activated…toggle switch or steering column lever? Sorry, but it’s probably going to take some digging and rework behind the dash to sort it all out.

Oh wow, OK.

Toggle switch for the signal lights and yeah no clue on the wiring at this point. I am the 3rd owner so even rougher.

Wish I had a lift lol.

Thanks, Jeff.
