I was concerned about the how close the transmission was to the tunnel wall on the passenger side.

I installed my engine and transmission today and the clearance in the tunnel wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Things worked out just fine

It’s supposed to be like that. The engine and transmission are offset to the passenger side by design.

As Jeff says, it's supposed to be offset more to the Passenger side. It is pretty close (as you noticed) depending on the transmission chosen for your build. Did you notice any binding when you installed the transmission cross-member mount (the elastomer assembly between the trans and cross-member)?

First time I looked down that tunnel and saw my rear axle off center I about crapped a brick thinking I screwed something up!

I am looking at a brick too.

The offset lines it up with the pinion shaft at the differential better. The Mustang that the original donor kit was designed after was that way as well. Maybe better weight distribution with a driver in the car? and more foot space around the pedals?

If you have the headers on the engine, it’s a good time to measure from the collectors to floor and balance the engine side to side so the body cutouts match up side to side. Measurements should be fairly equal. The engine can be pushed or shimmed on the mounts so the measurements are close.
