I have scanned the numerous postings regarding problems with tail light performance issues, but have not seen one that I am experiencing. So I am posting my unusual circumstance.

I have an MK4 Roadster, equipped with a flat converter and LED rear lights. The following quirk is observed:
With head light switch off:
1. right turn signal lights work fine (front parking and back tail light).
2. left turn signal switch triggers hazard flashing (both front parking, both back tail lights, and license light).
3. replaced both flashers with new ones -- continue to observe 1. and 2. above.
4. replaced flat converter with a new one, double checked all line connections which were made according the FF5
instructions -- continue to observe 1. and 2. above.
5. flip on-on switch for hazard lights -- hazard light flashing (both front and back).
6. with signal turn switch in off position, depressing brake, right brake light works, left does not.
With head light switch on:
1. No change to 1 and 2 above, but right brake light is on and left is not on
2. depressing brake, right brake light works, left does not.
3. Switched placement of left and right tail lights, observe same phenomenon (1 and 2 above)

Help! Anyone have ideas on causes of this phenomenon?

I’m not up to speed with the newer MK versions and the parts supplied but it sure sounds like you have some misplaced wiring. At one time it was a common problem to have wires in the wrong holes in wire connection plugs I would start with checking those then double check all connection points.

Thanks for the input Dave. I have checked connections at the flat converter and found one incorrect connection. So far all leads that have been checked are contiguous and no blown fuses. The remaining problems are: the left rear turn signal does not work, and the brake lights do not come on when depressing the brake, but the brake lights do light up when the head light switch is on. Everything else works, right turn front and back light, parking lights in front, hazard lights all around.
