have a blueprint 347 motor with a TKX transmission on its way. going in my gen 3 coupe. I know there have been questions out there on shifter locations, but im going to ask anyway. do I need a mid shift kit for the TKX or at the very least flip the shifter 180 degrees or can it stay in the stock shifter location. Im aware of possibly having to cut the cross brace in certain situations.
how is the trans tunnel aluminum hole line up from the factory?
thanks

I have a SBF 347 and a TKX. I flipped the shifter 180 degrees and it fits the frame fine. I had to move the hole in aluminum piece back a few inches.

I have this same setup and I think both rear shifter locations would require cutting the cross brace, but the mid-shift would probably avoid it. I have the shifter in the flipped rear position as shown below and I’ll need to fab a new panel to align the shifter hole. I’m not sure if the mid-shift position would align with the existing hole or not.

I did a Gen3 with Coyote and TKX and swapped it 180. You wouldn’t want to use the classic forward bent Cobra shift lever but when fitted with a straight short lever it’s very comfortable. The Coyote does move the transmission forward about and inch vs the Windsor but I think that difference in functionality is negligible.

thanks all. seem like its gonna be a game time decision as to the fitment

Fortunately, the decision doesn't need to be made before the engine/trans is installed. There are a couple of different front shift kits out there and they can be installed with the engine and transmission in place. I would suggest waiting until you mount your seats and see which location feels best.

mid shift on my 363 Dart/TKO600 combination. The rear shifter location is too far back, at least with the TKO and I think the newer TKX is similar.
