What do I wire to the sending unit with the vintage eltronic gauges .one wire or two and to which post

On the sender, one wire goes to ground and the other goes to signal input on the speedo

From what I understand, it doesn't make a difference which wire you run to ground, either will work.
On the other hand, (depending on your build), some fellows using the EFI with a stock ECM, run a wire to the ECM, as the donor VSS originally had. The ECM ground, allows for the VSS ground apparently, so it all still works as required. Others just run one wire to ground, one to the signal post on the speedo, and don't seem to have any real issues.
Still not 100% sure why, or if, the ECM really needs the signal?
