I have a gen3 coyote engine that I will be installing in a roadster soon. It seems many have modified the CMCV system as edwardb and others have done. Mostly with a gen 2 coyote. Is this still the best way to proceed? Or, no longer necessary since the gen 3 has been introduced?

I didn't modify the CMCV system on either my Gen 2 or Gen 3 Coyote builds. The issues I posted about is both require vacuum to operate. And neither the Factory Five or Ford Performance instructions correctly explain how to plumb it. So I did for both. I have no complaints about how my builds ran with the system functioning. However, very common for the system to be removed and locked out. Some question about how much performance is really gained for our purposes. Plus on the Hot Rod and Truck it's a matter of space. Once removed and the runners locked, the tune should be updated otherwise the PCM will throw DTC's.

Thanks Paul. I was confused about potentially removing the CMCV based on my accidentally downloading the hot rod coyote fitment instructions instead of the roadster coyote fitment; along with not realizing the CMCV info on both the FF5 and Ford is not really covered. Hopefully I would have realized the issue when I actually got to hooking up hoses.

I will setup my coyote like you detailed in your 10/30/2016 post ( I would link to it but I don't know how).

Thanks again

I have a 2nd Gen Coyote going into another build. I will not be removing the CMCVs. Ford incorporated them to improve emissions by controlling the length of the runners vs RPM and air flow in the intake manifold. The net result is that the engine produces more low end torque with a much better (flatter) torque curve with them working. For a mostly street driven car, where you have room, leave them alone and enabled. For a car that is going to be drag track raced where high RPM operation is all that you are after, by all means remove them and lock the intake runners to full open.

I removed my CMCV on my Gen3, locked the ports opened and the tuner disabled the codes that are generated when the runners are locked open

IMHO a loss of low end torque isn't a bad thing on these cars since they're so light already, while I didn't test before/after - having 413 rwhp is plenty powerful (too much even) on a roadster
