At a car show last weekend, another MK4 owner told me he had installed short gas struts that he mounted to the MK4 trunk hinge arms and to the breeze rear cockpit cubby divider aluminum. I didn't get the product #, source, or his contact info (I'm dumb). What have people used?

I used the complete kit provided gas struts on mine. Just had to make gaps in the breeze cubby divider for the struts to reach the cockpit rear support bar. Pic below for reference. Of note, you can put them on either side of the inner roll bar support, but if you do, be careful of how it may rub on the shoulder strap of your seatbelt/harness if you go on the outside of the inner roll bar support. I didn't think that riveting shorter struts to the breeze cubby wall would be very strong... Maybe with the body on the breeze cubby wall feels stronger. Also, as the trunk opens/closes the strut does move up and down slightly, hence the size of the holes. You could make the holes skinnier/slimmer if desired, but I had a circular drill that workded well enough for me on this one.
