I read some of the many posts about registration; the successes, failures, and nightmares. Today I went into my local DMV to pay for my other car tags. The nice young lady asked anything else, and I said “well” I need to register my replica car, she said sure no problem. She wanted my insurance, COO, and Factory Five detailed sales receipt. I offered her my Summit Racing receipt for my engine and she said she didn’t need that. I told her it was a replica made from new parts to resemble a 1965 vehicle. I believe using these words are key to getting a replica title rather than an assemble from parts title. It took about an hour, but I’m the proud owner of a 1965 Replica title and Roadster, with my FFR serial number as my vin#.

That's probably the biggest hurdle of the whole project. Congrats.

Fuel an,

That was great news. Can you tell me where you did your registration in Florida. Had you done anything else to prepare for the registration on the car like getting it weighed etc.

Thanks

Bill

Congrats. I believe Florida changed their laws regarding replica registration and based it on a new federal law, just like CT has done. Though it appears Florida is not requiring the replica manufacturer to appear on the NHTSA's website of registered replica manufacturers before allowing people to register them. In CT it should ultimately be as easy as what you experienced, but right now I am the unfortunate one of being the first person attempting to register a car under the new law. Once FFR appears on the NHTSA website I should be able to do exactly what you did and get my car registered without an inspection.

Hi Bill,

I live in Lake Mary, the Sanford downtown DMV office, super nice and kinda like old Florida. After reading the posts here, I made sure to say I bought a replica. Also reading the Florida DMV rules, a Replica is defined as: “Replica” means a complete new motor vehicle manufactured to look like an old vehicle.

Also, under a Replica title, no weight or inspection required. You do pay the tax on your detailed FFR sales receipt.

If that's the case, I may try for a registration right now even though I'm still in go-kart.

Just make sure to get the insurance first, my insurance company requested photos, maybe tell them you need the insurance as you will be go-carting on the street.

Yup, I agree. I've actually had insurance since the kit was delivered. Mostly just because my home insurance wouldn't cover it if the house burned down, but also for theft. And now go-karting.
