Anyone ever install them both together? Kinda like the hood pin look, just wonder how the hood would close over the pins.

My friend did it. Pins end
Just under the hood rather than attached to the frame.

I have done it this way as well. Same reason, customer liked the hood pin look, but wanted hinges.
PS. I consider Mike and I friends... But I am not the one he referencing. ;)

I did it on my old MkII. The difference there is that the hood was just one thickness of fiberglass. Car came for the original owner w/ hoodpins and the usual large washers on the outside surface. I made my own hinges from some diy notes of the time. The piece that attached directly to the hood was 1/8"x1" angle maybe 5 inches long. I drilled it so the pin could be mounted to it vs the frame. I found this pic on the web just now which is just like mine were. Instead of the two bolts I used the pin.

Worked fine for 15+years but I don't know if you could do similar to real FFR hinges.

I did it as well and made a video of the work involved.

Nicely done MikeD. Mine was similar but I made my prop rod connect the opposite way. On the driver side I made a piece that used the screws for the latch at the windshield end to mount a hinge for the rod. Made a small piece to attach like yours to the 3/4x3/4 tube to provide a hole for the end of the rod to fall into. When closing the hood the rod ended up being placed just outside of the hinge and sat on a piece of sticky back foam insulation.
