Subaru Engine Compatibility

I’m working on my 818s and have a question about engines. My donor is a 2002 Impreza N/A w/MT
I have just about everything off of it the kit needs except the engine and transmission.
I’ve been layed up for several days due to health issues and got to thinking, the donor eng&trans have been sitting a long time and won’t turn over by hand. Maybe I should just have the donor hauled away and when the time comes buy a used powertrain. I’d like to find a useable one f the same year but if I can’t can I use any from the 02-07 dates? Will the 02 wiring harness and ECU (I have out of the car) be compatible? If I want to step up to a turbo engine will I also need that engine’s harness and ECU?

If you are going to step up to a turbo engine, do it now. The wiring and ECU will be different.

I purchased an unfinished 818S project built almost to go-cart stage with a 2002 WRX (turbo) five speed donor.
It came with an Iwire harness and Cobb tuner. The rear suspension is FFR option links.
I am replacing the entire drive with an Acura J-V6 and six speed transaxle.
All the Subaru bits are available. PM me if interested.

Do some research on Cobb Green Speed and the pros / cons of a standalone ECU. It's not as easy to tune an OEM ECU as it used to be.
