Hello all,

I'm transfering the title of my Mk3 Roadster from SD to NM. It seems that the TorC MVD is making this very difficult so I'm looking for thoughts/suggestions.

My car was originally titled in NY state (2009) as a 'CUSTOM' and they applied a sticker with a "VIN" (not exactly) to the firewall. SD had no issues with that when I transfered the title there. NM didn't care for that SD title and started asking all sorts of questions. I debated giving them the frame number but was concerned that this would cause even more confusion.

Eventually, MVD decided that it is a "homemade/shop-built" vehicle and I need the State Police to do a VIN inspection and also need a weight slip (even though the weight is listed on the SD title). Of course, the State Police can't inspect for nearly a month so I wait.

Sure would appreciate suggestions/advice.

When I registered my ‘33 I went to the local MVD Express, they are authorized to do what the NM State MVD does.
All I had was the FFR paperwork, car insurance paperwork, and my checkbook.
I was in and out in 20 min. All they wanted to see was the chassis number, which is now my VIN, and the odometer mileage.
They didn’t ask about the license plate I stuck on the car that came from my other car.
Good Luck.
