View Full Version : Aeromotive Canister Fuel Filter

Just finishing up my fuel lines and did a quick pressure test. Looks like the fuel filter is the culprit, no leaks/bubbles at any connection.
I tried tightening the cannister and it is still leaking. Does anyone have any experience with this model?

A new O-Ring possibly?
I use a Canton fuel filter of similar type, it uses O-Rings, perhaps the AeroMotive does as well.

I have the same filter and don’t have this issue. Have you inspected the o-ring and seat area for damage?
As much as this unit costs, if swapping the prong doesn’t fix the problem, I’d return it and get a replacement.

ahhh frick. yes, i think its o-ring related. I remember opening the unit to check it out and read on aeromotive that the o-ring should be replaced if opened.
Just ordered some new o-rings.

Hmmm...I wonder if the TrickFlow has a similar issue...especially since I did the same thing (opened to have a look) ?

Maybe dumb questions, but is this an EFI application and is the filter good for EFI (higher pressure vs carb)?

Make sure to lubricate the o-ring.

Somebody here can correct me - but I think it is ideal for EFI - but you can use it for a carb. Well, I am using it on my carb application but it is probably overkill.
It is rated to 200PSI, so normal EFI pressures should be no problem. Either porous aluminum, bad machining, or a bad o-ring. My bet is o-ring.
Like Frank said, a little lube on the o-ring is necessary when assembling.

*update; Can confirm that it was the o-ring. Replaced it with Aeromotive 12008 and no leaks. Holds steady pressure.

In addition to the 12008 o-rings, for anyone using this filter, the replacement element part number is 12608.
I had the exact same scenario, took it apart before I even installed on the car and leaked shortly after I had my first start. I called Aeromotive and they sent me a few o-ring gaskets and has been fine ever since (6k miles on car now). Aeromotive IMO makes some really nice components and has really good customer support.
