License plate dimensions/ fit on trunk

I didn't want to hijack the other license plate thread. From all the different post of plates I saw it seemed some plates fit between the license plates bracket/lamp and trunk latch better than others. I thought all plates from the States are 12x6. Some people had to cut part of the plate to fit and some had plenty room. What am I missing? Is there different ways to get more room there?

Earlier models had less space between the bracket and the handle. Some people cut the plate, some people modified the bracket. FF fixed that issue and I believe with your delivery date you should be good.
I could be wrong.

As Higgy stated, this issue has been resolved on the newer MK-4 models.

Back in 2015 when my MK-4 was delivered it suffered from that issue.
The license plate location (Da-Bump) was even off centered.
I ditched the factory set up & went with this lighted frame.

Bill,
Your signature shows that your car was delivered in 2023. This is well after the trunk lid molds were modified to allow the plate to fit (that occured in the latter part of 2019). The history is that some people complained about the "perky butt" and "beak" on the Mk1,2 and 3 so for the Mk4 the rear was reshaped to be more like the originals eliminating those characteristics. The result was that the standard sized US plate didn't fit and people complained about that--- proving once again that Abe Lincoln was right :p
