Wilwood Master Cylinder Elbow Fittings

The 1/8-27 NPT elbows come with the Wilwood master cylinders. Sometimes it’s hard to get these to align straight up. Is it possible to over tighten these to where it damages the MC as the fittings are brass and the MCs are aluminum. I’ve got maybe 1/8” of threads left, but the last turn on both for alignment was pretty tight. No stripping. I was thinking more about stress on the housing.

If you get too manly there is the possibility of cracking the master cylinder.

You're describing exactly the reason why on my builds I use Wilwood 220-0628 straight adapter fittings vs. the 90-degree fitting supplied in kit. Easy enough to bend the brake lines around to meet the straight fittings.

Like Ed, I have learned that it is easier to use a straight adapter and a 90* hose end.

I will totally say it this way when I explain how I cracked a master cylinder in the future. Oh, and being "too manly" can also cause you to damage the fitting itself. It is just brass. The fitting will set you back about $8, the master cylinder about $100

If you're using windshield quick-release brackets I'd pay attention to how the clutch line routes out of the master cylinder and to your clutch. I switched my straight fitting out for a 90degree fitting to direct the line away from the windshield mounting places to give myself more room. This is not a problem on the brake lines though.

Thanks Paul. I'm going to switch out to the straight fittings. If something goes wrong in the future, it will be a lot easier to address.
