Does this look about right? According to the manual, the corners of the hoop are 3/16" below the top edge of the dash. Seems like it's sitting high to me.

Nope. It’s the other way around.

For the aluminum dash you want the ends of the dash 3/16" DOWN from the top of the tube at the outer ends. Passenger side is the same BUT first cut approximately 1 1/2-2” off of the passenger side end. Don't get too concerned with the relationship between the dash and top of the tube at the center---the hoop bends are inconsistent so that distance varies.

Yup. And the reason for trimming the end is because when it's tucked in behind the hinge it will hit the firewall extension which can then cause it to bow upward putting pressure on the underside of the cowl and raising it up with the result being that the door fits even worse than usual ;)

I don't know what the manual says...and no matter what it says it isn't always right ;)
