Need some help on dual sump oil pan selection. My engine is stock 89 302 HO with a high volume oil pump. I decided to change my old beaten up 35 year old oil pan. The one I got made contact with the front bolt at the bottom of the pump and indented the hex head into the pan. I removed the pan and found it had broken through at the contact point and made a pin hole.
The material on this "cheapo" oil pan was obviously paper thin. The pan is now $75 of never used scrap.
So I need to get a a pan that will fit and is made of thicker material. If necessary I can put in a standard oil pump.
My car is street use only, no competition.
Suggestions?

Kevko makes some nice offerings at a decent price.

PG_Cobra,
I struggled with pan selection too. Here’s a link to my build thread-post #6 is where I explain my choice-Dorman 264-022 pan with Melling M-68 pump and 247s pickup, all from Rock Auto. At the time I picked it Dorman’s website was easier to navigate-this pan was dual sump without a level sense port and <7.5” depth.

Get rid of the dual sump pan. Why would you keep that if you are buy a new pan?

I agree. Ditch the dual sump and get something that is shallower since the OEM Fox Body pan is just a bit under the frame rails anyway.

Thanks for all your advice.
I decided to keep the dual sump as I have no desire to get into more expense with changes to timing cover for the dipstick, etc, I ordered the pan from Kevko. They confirmed it will clear the Mellart HV pump.

??? There is no need to change the timing cover to use a different oil pan.

Careful using a HV oil pump also. The stock 302 block isn't designed to flow that much oil. Unless you have had your block and engine built to require a HV pump, I'd stick with a standard volume version.

Std oil pump recommendation noted. The HV pump has been there for 22 years, but may as well install a std pressure Melling pump. Ordered! Thanks
