View Full Version : Speaking of guages - oil temp

The thread on the useless clock reminded me. I have an oil temp gauge that used to be hooked to a sensor in my oil pan. Now after the engine swap I no longer have a sensor anywhere for my oil temp. What's an easy way to resolve this? I know they (oil temp gauges) are rarely accurate and to many a mechanic the bane of annoying questions from old fiddlefarts like me. I would like some reading on the gauge though even if I mostly ignore it. :-)

I should note there is not a bung in the oil pan for one. It's a brand new Ford Racing Boss 347.

I used an oil filter sandwich to gain access to additional ports.

Also I 'think' I have seen drain plugs drilled and threaded for a sender.

You want it in the sump or in the flow such as via a sandwich like JJK mentioned. Some guys mistakenly put them in a “T” with the oil pressure sender and then find that the gauge never moves because that oil is deadheaded.

Cool! That looks easy with the sandwich. Thanks!
