Hi Does anyone have an original factory five hood hinge ofr MKII? The kind where it mounts in the front center and bolts up to 6 bolts?

I bought my MkII already basically assembled and it had no hinge, just hood pins. So I can' say for sure but I don't think there was an official hinge. I built diy hinges via some plans that were on the other forum at the time.

I have a MK1 that I fitted a Factory Five hinge kit to during assembly. It was an option to buy from FFR. I believe the MKII used the same hinge. Don't know if FFR still sell it.

Craig,
As an FYI for you and others there actually was an (optional) FFR hinge setup for Mk1 and 2 that preceded the scissor type hinges that we are familiar with on Mk3 and 4. It was a hoop that ran around the hood perimeter and was either bonded to the hood or attached along the front edge and corners with rivets or button head screws with nuts. At the rear it was attached with the latch screws. This photo shows the hoop uninstalled:

The original hinge had two arms that attached to the 2 triangulated threaded inserts at the front center. The pivot for those arms bolted to the radiator cross tube. Also shown in this photo is a plate with a "5" logo---that was part of a retrofit kit to change it over from the two curved center arms (which tended to be kind of wobbly) to the scissor hinge style. The 6 bolts that held the curved arms to the hoop would be removed and this plat would be bolted on. The other part of the retrofit was bolt on mounts for the chassis side of the scissor hinges.

So there's today's FFR history lesson! :)

Hey Jeff, that's version II. I still have/use the original 'horseshoe' (just the U) on my MKI with my own framework, bonded and no problems in over 25yrs!

Jeff and weendoggy, thanks for correcting me. I guess my original buyer didn't go for that option. I used to know 2 other MkIIs and neither had that style hinge. It is always good to learn something new.

Hi. So when I bought it it already had the mk II hood hoop installed just no hinge. Really wanted to use the old Factory five center hood hinge but they haven't made for quite some time. Does anyone have any schematics or an old one so I could fab one up? Thanks Jeff
