8.8 straight rear axle info

hello I need a little info on the 8.8 rear axles. I am going to build a cobra with a 4.6 2v motor & a tremmec 3650 5 speed. my 02 donor car mustang GT has a bent rear axle (3.27 gear). Should I look for a 1999 TO 2004 axle or the earlier 1995 to 1998. I heard the earlier one were 1 inch narrower. is that true. i want the tires out to fill my wheel well. planning on 17 x 10.5 rims on the rear. I got a 3.73 ring & pinion I am thinking on using. I want to build a fun driver. Looking for advise or an opinion. Suppose I could ask the guys at factory five. Is there a perfect size rear tire to fill the the rear wheel well. I want the wide look 315/35r17 ?

Ideally to run 315s you need Fox (‘79-‘93) width. 1994-1998 can be converted to Fox width with shorter axle shafts and caliper relocation brackets (northracecars.com). The 1999 and later rear ends can only be brought to Fox width by cutting down the housing and using shorter axle shafts.

I have a full SN95 5 bolt axel in my mk4.
With the added adjustability of the 3 link, it fits with 315s on 17" wheels. They don't rub, and come just near the wheel lip.
