Installing the sun visors I got the drivers side installed without issue. On the passenger side I got the right bracket installed OK but trying to install the left bracket both of the screws snapped off, big problem. A friend and fellow builder is coming over to help remove the snapped screws from the w/s frame. If we are successful and the w/s survives I'll be very happy.

Get some #6-32 flat, square nuts and use the channel on the top of the frame to mount the visors.

Thanks Papa, I just went in to my garage to get ready to work on the snapped screws and my worst fear came true. I have about a 2" crack in the upper right corner of the W/S. I guess my next move will be to contact 520 speedworks for one of their Lexan W/S

That's unfortunate.

And that’s why I devised the alternate mounting method. Sorry about your luck :(

That is a pain in the a$$. Couldn’t follow Jeff’s procedure to attach the sun visors because I have a soft top but, did heed his warning about the screws being too long and took the windshield frame apart and the glass out to install the visors. Sure enough the little screws were about 3/32 too long and would have gone right through the rubber to the glass. Good luck with the new windshield.

I did grind about 3-4 threads off of the screws.

Before you spend the money and time installing the Lexan windshield, it might be good to contact your Department of Transportation to make sure a glass windshield is not required by law. Better to check first I would think.

Here are a few tips I picked up from Edwardb's build thread on sun visor installation, along with my own tweak.

First off - throw away the screws that come in the kit for mounting the brackets to the windshield frame. They are the wrong thread pitch. Not sure why they continue to provide these in the kit. What you want is M3 x 0.5mm thread, 5mm long oval head screws (McMaster P/N 90258A173 (https://www.mcmaster.com/90258A173/)). These screws will be a little too long but they are the correct thread pitch. After much measuring, grinding, re-measuring and re-grinding I figured out that the easiest way to get the screws to the correct length is to screw a 3mm nut onto the screw and grind off whatever is sticking out past the nut. You'll end up with a screw a little over 4mm in length. This is just enough to fully engage the windshield frame without making contact with the glass. In the photo, you can see an unshortened screw on the right and a shortened one on the left, along with a scew/nut combo that I used to grind the screws to the correct length. Easy peasy.

Technically John they are not the wrong thread pitch. The windshield frame is tapped for 6-32 and the supplied screws are 6-32. The problem arises because the windshield manufacturer taps the brass frame prior to chroming—-the chrome in the tapped holes prevents the 6-32 screws from going in easily, if at all, as the OP unfortunately found out. It’s a happy coincidence that the M3 “fits”, but it isn’t by design. Many years ago I used to run a 6-32 bottom tap into the holes to clear out the chrome but I started to feel like doing so was playing Russian Roulette and came up with the top mount method. I now tell my customers that if they want them installed in the standard location they’re going to have to do it themselves;)
