Does synthetic oil for the Moser rear-end require a friction modifier?

If it has a standard Ford LSD, then it does. For an open diff or a work gear (Detroit TruTrak, Torsion) it's not needed. If you're not sure what you have, a modifier won't hurt anything.

Some synthetic lubes already have the modifier in them.

I thought Moser's came with a tag that says not to use synthetic?

Moser recommends non synthetic.

Non synthetic is also the recommendation from Eaton for the Tru-Trac.

The sticker on the back of the Moser rear end differential cover states "Synthetic lube only"

When I recieved my rear end same problem they recommended both types .In the end thr engineer I spoke with said for break in use a non synthetic with the modifier .After the first change use either synthetic prefered and always add the modifier even if the synthtic has it in it.He also recommended Lucas brand oil.It took several calls to get to the engineer but he was nice and seemed to now what he was talking about. He was also the guy who got me the specs on the tubing I needed and the correct weld on ends for the new housing I needed to fab up.
