View Full Version : Am I going crazy? Did Cobras have sliding mirrors at some point?

I’ve got it in my head, a very clear picture, of an AC cobra with a sliding rearview mirror. Sliding as in from the windshield header down to the bottom of the windshield on a rail. Was that ever a thing, or did I just make it up?

Yes. At least I know you can buy such a thing.

Not sure about the originals but Superformance ran a center rod. Held the top & bottom windshield frames together, important when running a top. At one point SPF switched to a glued perimeter, big PITA if you needed to change the glass. In my two cars the windshield mirror was on a slider on the rod. I liked it as it was easy to change the height.

I installed one on my car because when I have the top on the view with the regular dash mounted one was partly blocked. The adjustable set up allows the mirror to be up far enough so that is no longer an issue.

I put a center rail on mine to position the mirror better so that I can see past the Challenge Car roll bars better.

To the best of my knowledge, they originals never came with that set up from the factory. It's an aftermarket idea.

CSX2259 had the center rod support.

Not loosing it. Got mine from Xxxxxxxxxx, before the change of ownership. Required to hold the centre of the top windshield frame down with the Whitby soft top.
Sorry this is the only picture that shows it that I have on this device.
