I ordered the 30 degree shifter from finish-line and I like the angle and shifter position
the f-line is a 1/2-20 thread, my shift ball is 3/8-24

going from a smaller thread (female) to bigger thread (male) would mean an extension which makes the shifter longer...

what options could I take here?

Maybe look at a heli-coil type insert...

good idea, but how do I remove the smaller insert already in the shift knob?

I would not mess w/ the knob. Too difficult to hold for any work w/ damaging it. I'd take the lever to a machine shop and have them make it into the 3/8 threads? That knob is so cool I'd be spending whatever they charge to use it.

Agree with Craig. Trying to drill out or pull out the insert would likely damage the knob. I also snagged one of these from Mark once he announced they were going away. That was a couple of years ago. You must be squirreling away parts;)

Craig gave you the right solution.

Breeze was buying the balls from a large pool ball manufacturer. I bought mine directly from them custom made including the threads, color, size & shift pattern. Some of my older posts on this subject should still have the company's name. Cannot remember it right now will look to see if I still have the invoice in my stuff. IIRC was $85.00

EDIT: Company was EPCO Shift Knobs. They seem to be able to do all the same things but do some reason don't look to have the snake anymore. Maybe one of the infamous Shelby product ID suits?

yep I already have the breeze shift ball, but with smaller threads that fits the FFR shifter

had a crazy idea to hack up my new shifter

I reached out to BradC who built the Tesla Rod (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?42653-Tesla-Powered-33-Hot-Rod) :)
he lives about a mile away and had the most awesome garage tool setup known to man

I got the crazy idea of chopping off the 1/2-20 thread and pulling out the fake reverse lockout (not a fan if it's not real)
drilled out the obligatory 3/8" holes in the shifter handle, and I got a 3 inch grade5 bolt and lopped off the head, just needed a way to merge the two parts

enter BradC with his CNC machine and he milled down the 75 cent bolt and then tack welded it in place and ground down the excess

all I need now is to get a chrome 2" tube with 1/2" ID and 5/8" OD to finish it off

super happy with this setup and it mitigates the 'pinch' on the shifter boot (of which I also inverted and will be putting on a leather boot to hide things)

Go to your local Ace or TrueValue store and look in their bolt and nut aisle. There should be some machine bushings or similar name there. Not sure about chrome though. You could also look at McMaster Carr for stainless steel tubing, buy a foot long piece, cut to your desired length, and then polish it. Might even be nicer than chrome.

I had a knob made to order with the correct threads from a seller on eBay:

It sounds like you're set on the shift ball, so I would go with a different shifter rod. Unless that isn't an option.

Came out great! I was backwards in my thinking suggesting the insert.
