What did you do about the threads on the center piece that the spinner threads onto? PC it too?

The guy doing my wheels said the spinner might not go on if the thread on the center piece is PC. Even if so it will scratch when putting on or removing the spinner. However, I don’t want that center piece to be a different color (aluminum) vs the rest of the wheel (will be bronze-ish).

Thank you!

He’s right. They can be problematic even when they’re raw. Coating will likely make it impossible.

You can anodize the center threaded section, but not the spinner. But, it may be difficult to get an exact color match to the PC, and the sheen will most likely be different as well.
You could mask the threads of the spinners and have them powder coated and probably will never notice the inside threads are not coated.

Don’t powder coat the threaded adapters. You’ll never see it.

Great, that's really helpful!

Did you get your wheels powder coated? Just curious how you handled the spinner and threaded adapter. And just to confirm, the FFR Halibrands come from FFR painted and not powder coated.

Hi. I had my wheels PC at a shop, FFR does not provide this service.

The spinner was PC and the threaded adapter as well, but none of the threads. However, in the end I am not using the spinner or adapter and going with a 3D printed center cap.

With that said, if I had to do it again I would ceramic coat/paint the wheels instead.

Why would you paint vs powder coat? I'm doing this soon. Was just planning on not doing the threads.

Thanks

The ceracoat or ceramic coat or ceramic paint (goes by different names) is much harder. All the better for a part is probably going to get some pebbles and stuff banging on it as well as tire changers. If using ceramic coat you can probably paint the threads as it's much thinner than PC. I have even painted screws and they screw right in.
