View Full Version : Another E-Stopp mount location thread

So, I’ve looked at all the existing threads on the topic, and spent quite a bit of time crawling around my chassis trying to decide where I want to mount my E-Stopp.
I don’t want to do the trans tunnel, because I’d like to be able to have reasonably easy access to it without too much trouble if I ever have to do any maintenance on it or replace it. I like the position in front of the gas tank, as I’ve seen a couple others do. But, I’d like to do it a bit different.
My thought is to use a chunk of plate aluminum as a mounting base to the chassis tubes and mount the unit sideways like in the photos. I could either use rivnuts or through bolts, if bolt heads wouldn’t interfere with the tank on the other side.
My question is: is there anything that will need to occupy any of that space that I would be interfering with by installing it this way?
Thanks in advance for your input.

I mounted my E-Stopp on the driver's side rear quarter. It works great, mounting and cable routing was simple, easy access if needed, and the brake module is protected/shielded by the elephant ear. I would definitely mount it in the same place if I had to do it over again.

That location will work fine. I mounted mine in that location but slightly differently. I am thinking about using the E-stopp for my build. Are you concerned with cable wear with respect to the 45 degree direction change between the E-stopp unit and the bracket? Could it be mounted more in line or would there be interference problems with the body?

This is what I ended up settling on. I like it a lot, and I’ll have full access to the cable adjusters from under the car. If you get quality cables, 45 degree bends shouldn’t be an issue. I don’t know that it would even be possible to install without at least one 45 bend in one of the cables.
Also, since I have the GPS gauges, I used the speed sensor wires in the tranny tunnel to bring the power. 195252195253

For whatever reason, the photo makes the bend look more excessive than it really is. Up close, it is a relatively smooth arc which should be no problem for the cable. The reason why it is mounted on an angle is because I wanted the actuator and the bracket to be mounted onto the frame, not just the thin aluminum panel. With the actuator, you can see how it follows the rivet line of the frame. However, I suppose you could make the actuator more in-line with the bracket by having the actuator straddle the frame component instead of one edge running parallel. There is plenty of room/clearance in that area with the body on. As I have it mounted, it works very well and there is no cable binding with full cable release when off.

How do you access the E-stopp with the body on? Can you get to it to adjust or replace if needed?

Very good access to both the actuator and mounting bracket/adjusters. Cable adjustments are easy, just remove the rear wheel and the bracket is sitting right there. From the underside, there is a large opening between the body and frame that allows good access to the actuator - I can easily get both hands into that space. If one needed even better access, remove the elephant ear and everything is wide open. If the E-Stopp ever needed replacing, my guess is that I could do it in less than 15 minutes. Since installing and putting about 700 miles on, I have not had to make any adjustments and it has been trouble free.
