Hey all,
I have been away from the forum for quite some time, hope everyone has been well...

I recently purchased the new style for headers from FRR to replace my existing 4 into 4's. I am getting ready to install a new EFI system, and liked that the new headers had EFI bungs in the correct places.
In the past, it was recommended to not use the hangers because over time the mounts would crack at the location where they attached to the exhaust. The new headers have a ball/socket arrangement. Has anyone experienced slippage at that ball/socket joint when running without the hangers? Is it recommended to smear a light layer of copper gasket material in the joint before tightening?

Thanks all!

Rickster

The ball socket slips even WITH the sidepipe middle hangers and in fact I fabricate an additional forward hanger similar to what I make for use with the J-pipes to hold them stationary.

You don’t need me to sell anything to you…easy for you to make your own. Here are a couple of pics of the front hangers I make for J-Pipes to supplement the rear hanger but they are exactly the same for ball flange headers & pipes. It's all just a few bucks worth of hardware store turnbuckles, nuts and bolts and a generic Mustang style double donut rubber tailpipe hanger.

Just like to offer counterpoints to the “It costs more so it must be better” mindset that is often prevalent around these parts ;)

Goes right along with 'need to re-invent the wheel'.
