I have a dilemma. I'm due to take my newly titled and registered MK4 to the state emissions inspection station to get my newly available lifetime emissions waiver. I have to do it by April 30, but I have an apointment on Monday at 11 AM. The forecast is for clear and 45 degrees, and the place is about 14 miles away, so maybe a 20 minute drive. I also have access to a trailer.
Dress warm (in layers.) Cover your head, wear gloves and drive.

OK, but seriously, you have to drive her; it is a moral imperative!!
Good luck.

Steve

Drive REALLY fast, so fast that you don't have time to get cold. The cops will understand.

45* is downright balmy, compared to the temps I have sometimes been out cruising around in.. Go for it!:)

No sympathy from the motorcycle guys. At least, you have some wind shielding in the roadster. Suck it up and go!!! WEK.

45 is reason enough to go for a drive, down around 40 then maybe throw it on the trailer and take it over...
Very cool btw on the lifetime emissions waver...

X2. If it was me, I'd put on my leathers - jacket, chaps, gloves - and go as fast as I could!
My wife said, "MAN UP!"
Its only 14 miles. That's nothing.

Hi Joe -
I had the same decision on Friday - Go for it! I had a wheel alignment at 8:30 Friday AM. Actually drove the car over snow (ok - only an 1/8 of an inch) to the state road. I had my MAC inspection in Framingham on Friday afternoon. Ten minutes and I was done. I was warm enough. I wore a "Mad Bomber" hat for the run to Framingham (about 15 miles one way), and my ears were nice and warm. I think it was about 35 - 38 Friday afternoon. Got a pretty new green 2013 sticker today! Emissions exempt forever in MA - Miracles do really happen :)
Have a great ride - Scott

This from the guy who says he is bringing it to Moochfest???
C'mon Joe, Drive it, it will be a practice run for when it gets cold.

I'm going to be completely honest. It's not the weather holding me back, it's not having driven it more than 1/4 mile. The pads aren't bedded in and the brake bias is unknown at this point. I'm going to try and get those two pesky items taken care of today. Damn the torpedoes!!!

When I was young and crazy I did a 400 mile trip on a Honda 350 with temps in the high 30's-low 40's..
Drive that beast and best of luck with the RM:D

Speaking of thermal thongs, Gary, I thought I'd just show the guys your "formal wear".

Okay, poll is closed. I did it at a balmy 29 degrees. Found the inspection facility and was there maybe 15 minutes. My VIN is now in the RMV computer as emissions exempt. Now I just have to figure out how to recover from the "Costanza Syndrome" I developed on the return trip.

Lol I thought the thrill of driving the car would easily counteract the "shrinkage"..:p

Congrats, wasn't so bad, was it? :p Is that for the car's lifetime, or yours as the owner? When I was much younger and poorer, I rode an old Yamaha 650 to work almost every day one winter, even in the snow! You couldn't pay me enough to do that now. It's quite amazing, the difference in what it takes to satisfy the various states' MVAs. I guess Cali is the worst, but here in FL, they don't even want to see the car when titling/registering, no inspections or emissions. Just MCO, insur. info., invoice for the kit, and of course, $. And a lot of guys even get historic plates.
