So many hoops to jump through, but I got my CA SB100 Sequence number for my Coupe today. I’m number 167 on Dec 1 this year, so I don’t think they run out of numbers each year. Already got my VIN, brake and lamp inspection, etc.

I’ve got a virtual BAR appointment on Monday. Then visual inspection. Then CA plates!

Almost there.

Congrats!

And yes they've been doing less than 250/year for a while now.

I was number 103 in June. Good luck! Just make sure you have the closed PCV system and you'll be good.

Virtual BAR appointment, that's new. When I went through the registration process in 2014, the BAR was down at Fullerton College CA. The inspection then was anything but virtual. My impression of the BAR guy was he was kind of an a..s, Then he asked if his automotive repair class could come out and see the car, then he became far more human.

In the current process there's still an in-person BAR inspection but they do a "virtual" inspection first. Basically you send them all your documentation and a bunch of photos, and once they're satisfied that everything looks OK they'll schedule the in-person appointment. I'm guessing it cuts down on how many people show up and fail because they ignored or were missing something basic.

The PCV set up is simple. Need a PCV valve in one of your valve covers going to the vacuum port on your carburetor. The other valve cover has a closed line going to your air filter. So the idea is that filtered air is going in to one sider of the engine and oil fumes are being sucked out of the other side and put into the intake to be burned. You need to use rubber hosing rated for PCV line (I think fuel line is equivalent).

The virtual appointment requires that you send in all documentation, receipts, pictures of the build, the engine intake, the PCV set up previously. If all is accepted the appointment consists only of them saying "Good job! Cool car! Go to the BAR for an in person inspection and to get your SB100 tag.

You don't have to show that it is a 1965. Mine was a 302 bored and stroked to 347. The block was from a 1995 F150 truck with all new internals. They had all my receipts. They just ask what year the car is, and I said "Its a replica of a 1965 Daytona Coupe." My BAR sticker says for year/make/model: 2023 65 SPCNS Daytona. SPCNS stands for specially constructed vehicle.
