Hi Folks,

I searched the forum but couldn’t find any threads on this. Maybe I missed them??

Regardless, I’m trying to figure out the best way to change my 4-bolt, 8.8 solid rear end (currently drum brakes) to a 5-bolt. My front end is already using the FF 5-bolt front.

I guess the two options are new axles or 4 to 5 bolt adapters.

Does anyone have thoughts or experience using the adaptors? That would appear to be the most straightforward approach. Any input would be appreciated. Thx.

I wouldn't trust them. Many, many years ago I replaced a front fender and a friend's '68 firebird that had wheel adapters on it (converting from GM to a Ford bolt pattern). You guessed it---the tire and wheel came off when the adapter failed.

A pair of axles and brake drums are pretty inexpensive.

I got 5 lug axles, bearings and seals to convert for less than $300 from LMR.

I bought my 31 spline 5 lug axles for about $250 from summit racing. Mine was a kit that included bearings, seals and studs.

check out north racecars. https://northracecars.com/c-clip_brakes.html
I think they have packages w/ the axles, caliper brackets, etc so it's one stop shopping.
