Are any of you running Mickey Thompson Street Comp Tires on your Factory Five Roadsters or Type-65 Coupes?

Mickey Thompson is a subsidiary of Cooper Tires while Cooper is as subsidiary of the Mega Brand known as Goodyear.

I’ve had several cars come through here with them but haven’t driven any distance. They are 300 treadwear which would indicate a street tire that will tolerate cool and wet but not an all out performance tire. Given the choice I’d probably opt for the 555G2.

I had a pair on the back. I'd agree w/ Jeff's assessment. Decent w/ no downsides like noise or lack of wet traction or going scary slippery in the cold. I'd buy again.

A friend has them on his car, he's not impressed and won't buy them again

These tires came on the wheels with the tire and wheel package from F5. I have 15000 miles on them. The front show almost no wear. They will almost certainly age out before they wear out. The rears, well, I did one donut too many. They held up to my abuse for a long while though. I just replaced the rears with the Nitto 555. I would have put the M/T back on to keep the tires a matched set, but the Nitto were more available.

The M/T are fine. Nothing special. I've been through quite a few rain storms with them and I didn't have a problem with hydroplaning.

I have them on my Coupe. One of the few options for 15” wheels. They look great! I only have about 75 miles on them, so can’t say much more!

The Street Comp tires are not available in 15”. I imagine you have the Sportsman’s; totally different tire with a 400+ treadwear rating.

You are right, sir! My oversight.

Not bashing anyone, but really shocked at owners that run the hard, over 250 tread wear rating, tires.
These cars need all the traction they can get, for stopping and going.

I guess it comes down to what you are going to do with the car. The Sportsman S/TS are plenty safe for street use, have a period look and won’t need to be replaced quickly. If you are going to the track, drag racing, or god help you, street racing, you need softer tires.

I guess some owners drive enough to wear out a set of tires. Most of my toy's tires age out before the tread is gone. Putting soft tires on, does not mean you are going to drive aggressively, but they will be under you to cover more driving conditions.
I do not think price difference will save you that much.
With all of that said, it is your car, like you want it and you know how you will drive. Just food for thought.
Go Dad Go, I am impressed with your drag times. No way, any of that is slow.
I have lost so much in my reflexes, I have to refrain from risky fun.

Railroad,

The engine and transmission for Redbone was supposed to go into a 3500 pound 1980 Z/28.
The Cobra scared the crap out of me until I learned how to press the gas pedal instead of mashing it.
For the record, it took me 6 months to creep up on the rev limiter because it scared me more than a few times.
At 124 MPH I'm up against the rev limiter at 6000 RPM in the top of 4th.
The 3.73 gears really make is scoot plus it is 1000 pounds lighter than my old car.
